What is community solar?
Community solar farms are built throughout each state enabling multiple people to share the benefits of low cost, local renewable energy.
The clean electricity produced by the solar farm is fed into the electrical grid. Customers enrolled in the community solar farm receive solar credits on their utility bills, reducing what they owe to the utility each month.
Who can sign up for community solar?
If you pay an electric bill and live in a state with a community solar program, then you should be eligible to sign up for community solar. It doesn’t matter whether you rent or own your home or apartment.

Do I need to install solar panels on my home to participate in community solar?
No. Solar farms are built throughout the state and you simply get to subscribe with no long-term commitment and enjoy the benefits of local renewable energy savings for up to 20 years to come.
How long does it take to get connected?
We work to connect you as quickly as possible, but timing depends on your utility and project availability. We cannot guarantee connection to a project.
When will I see my first savings?
Community solar farms take time to build. After we enroll your account, it may take several months before the project starts generating energy and savings. We'll keep you updated throughout the process.
Do I need to change anything with my utility account?
No. We handle everything with your utility. You don't need to do anything.
Will my subscription change over time?
Yes, we may adjust it to maximize your savings. If you're using more electricity than expected, we'll increase your subscription at no extra cost. If you're using less, we'll decrease it so you're not over-subscribed. Either way, you keep saving.
Why do you need my payment information?
In New York and Virginia, charges appear on your utility bill. In other states, we bill you separately for the solar credits (minus your discount) via automatic payment after they appear on your utility bill.
Will I still pay my utility bill?
Yes. Your solar credits reduce what you owe. In sunny months, credits may exceed your usage, creating a zero balance with credits rolling forward. In other months, you'll pay the remaining balance to your utility.
What if I move?
Moving within the same utility territory? We'll update your subscription to your new address. Moving outside the territory? We'll cancel your membership and notify you when we have projects in your new area.
